Spinal decompression surgery for Nabirye: covering what insurance won't
Nabirye needs spinal decompression surgery at Nairobi General Hospital and the family is $1,100 short of the hospital's estimate.

Nabirye was diagnosed with osteoarthritis in the right knee in August. The surgeon at Nairobi General Hospital recommended spinal decompression surgery, and She is scheduled for November. The hospital's financial office gave us a written estimate of $2,200, and after what my employer's plan will pay we're still $1,100 short.
my wife has been in and out of Nairobi General Hospital since August. The doctors say osteoarthritis in the right knee will get worse without spinal decompression surgery. We have emptied our savings and borrowed from relatives, but the estimate of $2,200 is more than we can find.
While we wait, Nabirye struggles with daily life and can't work a full shift. Her family has taken turns caring for her, and I've cut my own work hours to be there.
Rehabilitation is expected to take about 3 weeks. During that time Nabirye won't be able to work a full shift, so the costs keep growing.
I'll pay the hospital and pharmacy directly and post every receipt in the updates section.
Where the $1,100 goes:
• Surgeon and anesthesia fees: $600
• Hospital stay (3 nights): $260
• Pre-operative tests and imaging: $60
• Post-operative medication: $50
• Physiotherapy sessions: $80
• Travel and lodging for the family: $50
Thank you for reading my story.

praying for you, Collins. Your post was clear and honest
You're not alone. I work in healthcare and wanted you to know people are on your side. My brother had a similar thing happen so this one hit home. Love from Lafayette!
So sorry you're going through this, Collins. It takes guts to ask. Well done.
