Joseph was diagnosed with a herniated spinal disc in January. The surgeon at Fort Portal General Hospital recommended spinal decompression surgery, and He is scheduled for April. The hospital's financial office gave us a written estimate of $1,200, and after what the government subsidy will pay we're still $900 short. my father has been in and out of Fort Portal General Hospital since January. The doctors say a herniated spinal disc will get worse without spinal decompression surgery. We have emptied our savings and borrowed from relatives, but the estimate of $1,200 is more than we can find. While we wait, Joseph struggles with daily life and can't look after the children alone. His family has taken turns caring for him, and I've cut my own work hours to be there. Rehabilitation is expected to take about 7 weeks. During that time Joseph won't be able to look after the children alone, so the costs keep growing. The money goes straight to the treatment bills, and I'll share the invoices as they're paid so you can see exactly what your gift did. Where the $900 goes: • Surgeon and anesthesia fees: $370 • Pre-operative tests and imaging: $65 • Hospital stay (5 nights): $390 • Post-operative medication: $20 • Travel and lodging for the family: $55 I'll pay this kindness forward the moment I'm able to. - Zawadi
