Spinal decompression surgery for Amparo: covering what insurance won't
After an aortic valve defect, Amparo was cleared for spinal decompression surgery, but the bill is more than we can manage.

Amparo was diagnosed with an aortic valve defect in April. The surgeon at Guadalajara Community Hospital recommended spinal decompression surgery, and She is scheduled for May. The hospital's financial office gave us a written estimate of $1,200, and after what the public health scheme will pay we're still $900 short.
my daughter has been in and out of Guadalajara Community Hospital since April. The doctors say an aortic valve defect will get worse without spinal decompression surgery. We have emptied our savings and borrowed from relatives, but the estimate of $1,200 is more than we can find.
While we wait, Amparo struggles with daily life and can't walk without help. Her family has taken turns caring for her, and I've cut my own work hours to be there.
Recovery is expected to take about 3 weeks. During that time Amparo won't be able to walk without help, so the costs keep growing.
I'll pay the hospital and pharmacy directly and post every receipt in the updates section.
Where the $900 goes:
• Hospital stay (3 nights): $540
• Travel and lodging for the family: $95
• Pre-operative tests and imaging: $120
• Physiotherapy sessions: $145
Glad we found this place.
