Sônia was diagnosed with a large ovarian cyst in September. The surgeon at Ribeirão Preto Orthopedic Institute recommended laparoscopic cyst removal, and She is scheduled for December. The hospital's financial office gave us a written estimate of $1,850, and after what the public health scheme will pay we're still $1,400 short. my sister has been in and out of Ribeirão Preto Orthopedic Institute since September. The doctors say a large ovarian cyst will get worse without laparoscopic cyst removal. We have emptied our savings and borrowed from relatives, but the estimate of $1,850 is more than we can find. While we wait, Sônia struggles with daily life and can't walk without help. Her family has taken turns caring for her, and I've cut my own work hours to be there. Rehabilitation is expected to take about 6 weeks. During that time Sônia won't be able to walk without help, so the costs keep growing.
