Johannesburg
Sipho was diagnosed with stage 3 ovarian cancer in August. The oncology team at the Johannesburg Oncology Institute has planned 8 rounds of treatment, starting in October. He will be away from work for about 8 weeks. Sipho is 44, worked as a bakery worker until August, and has always been the one who looks after everyone else. Now it's our turn to look after him. Treatment is covered only in part. Medication that isn't on the approved list, trips to the Johannesburg Oncology Institute 4 times a week, and the income the family has lost add up quickly. We've already sold what we could and have begun borrowing for groceries. Every kindness from you takes weight off his shoulders. Funds will be used only for treatment, medication, transport to appointments and essential living costs during treatment. Where the $1,850 goes: • Household costs while unable to work: $460 • Chemotherapy and medication not covered: $880 • Scans and lab work: $360 • Transport to the Johannesburg Oncology Institute: $150 You're what makes this possible, and I'll never forget it. - Shireen
