Shapla was diagnosed with a benign brain tumor in August. The surgeon at Gazipur Community Hospital recommended gallbladder removal, and She is scheduled for December. The hospital's financial office gave us a written estimate of $1,100, and after what our health plan will pay we're still $550 short. my mother has been in and out of Gazipur Community Hospital since August. The doctors say a benign brain tumor will get worse without gallbladder removal. We have emptied our savings and borrowed from relatives, but the estimate of $1,100 is more than we can find. While we wait, Shapla struggles with daily life and can't look after the children alone. Her family has taken turns caring for her, and I've cut my own work hours to be there. Rehabilitation is expected to take about 5 weeks. During that time Shapla won't be able to look after the children alone, so the costs keep growing.
