Septoplasty for Abosede: covering what insurance won't
After osteoarthritis in the right knee, Abosede was cleared for septoplasty, but the bill is more than we can manage.

In August I was diagnosed with osteoarthritis in the right knee. My surgeon at Ikeja Regional Medical Center recommended septoplasty, and I have been placed on the schedule for November. The hospital's financial office gave me a written estimate of $1,300, and after what my employer's plan will pay, I'm still $900 short.
Doctors at Ikeja Regional Medical Center told me osteoarthritis in the right knee will get worse without septoplasty. I work as a delivery rider, and I have saved what I can, but the estimate of $1,300 is far beyond what I've.
Until the surgery I can't work full days, and my hours as a delivery rider have already been cut. Every week of waiting means more pain and a bigger risk.
The recovery period is expected to take about 3 weeks. I'll not be able to climb stairs during that time, so this has become a financial emergency as well as a medical one.
I'll pay the hospital and pharmacy directly and post every receipt in the updates section.

• Surgeon and anesthesia fees: $480
• Physiotherapy sessions: $80
• Hospital stay (2 nights): $250
• Post-operative medication: $50
• Travel and lodging for the family: $40

The list at the bottom is the whole picture. surgeon and anesthesia fees is the biggest at $480. Good question.
