I live with an amputation below the knee. My occupational therapist at the Colombo Rehabilitation Centre has assessed me and recommended a powered wheelchair. The public scheme doesn't cover it, and the quote from the supplier is $1,350.
My current equipment is 13 years old and keeps breaking, which has confined me to home for 3 weeks.
With the right equipment I could join the school sports day. It would change my everyday life and my ability to work from home.
We've applied to two charities already and received small contributions; this campaign covers the rest.
Funds go toward the equipment, delivery, fitting and a year of servicing.
Where the $1,350 goes:
• powered wheelchair: $1,250
• Fitting and training sessions: $45
• Delivery and set-up: $30
• First-year servicing plan: $25
