In August I was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia. My oncology team at Narayanganj Regional Medical Center has planned 10 rounds of treatment, and the first starts in November. I was told to expect about 8 weeks away from work. I never imagined I'd be writing something like this. I'm 29, I worked as a hairdresser until August, and I have been the main earner for my household. Treatment is covered only in part. Medication that isn't on the approved list, transport to Narayanganj Regional Medical Center 4 times a week, and the income I have lost add up quickly. My family is doing everything they can, but we've already sold what we could and are borrowing for groceries. Funds will be used only for treatment, medication, transport to appointments and essential living costs during treatment. Where the $1,750 goes: • Chemotherapy and medication not covered: $1,050 • Scans and lab work: $230 • Transport to Narayanganj Regional Medical Center: $135 • Nutrition and supplements prescribed by the care team: $55 • Household costs while unable to work: $280 Thank you for reading my story.
