Riley was diagnosed with a large ovarian cyst in August. The surgeon at Pittsburgh General Hospital recommended palate reconstruction surgery, and She is scheduled for November. The hospital's financial office gave us a written estimate of $5,750, and after what my employer's plan will pay we're still $4,350 short. my daughter has been in and out of Pittsburgh General Hospital since August. The doctors say a large ovarian cyst will get worse without palate reconstruction surgery. We have emptied our savings and borrowed from relatives, but the estimate of $5,750 is more than we can find. While we wait, Riley struggles with daily life and can't look after the children alone. Her family has taken turns caring for her, and I've cut my own work hours to be there. The recovery period is expected to take about 10 weeks. During that time Riley won't be able to look after the children alone, so the costs keep growing. I'll pay the hospital and pharmacy directly and post every receipt in the updates section. Where the $4,350 goes: • Physiotherapy sessions: $560 • Hospital stay (4 nights): $2,750 • Pre-operative tests and imaging: $560 • Travel and lodging for the family: $480 Even a small gift gets used right away and I'll thank you myself.
