Restoring the Unity riverbank: a volunteer-led project in Hanoi
A neighborhood-led restoration of the Unity riverbank needs $350 for saplings and equipment.
🇻🇳 Hanoi, Hanoi, Vietnam964 views
The Unity riverbank has been used as an informal dump for years. This July, 66 neighbors turned up for a first cleanup, filling 147 bags in a single morning. Now we want to restore it for good.
We have a plan agreed with the local forestry office, including native species selected by a local botanist.
The area floods more each year, and fish have returned for the first time in a decade after our first cleanup. Restoring it will protect homes and bring back shade.
All the labor is volunteered. We just need materials.
We'll post planting day photos and a count of every sapling planted.
Where the $350 goes:
• Native saplings and stakes: $160
• Tools and protective gear: $65
• Waste removal and skip hire: $120
• Signage and educational materials: $5
I never thought I'd be the one asking, and I'm grateful for every bit of support.

wishing you the best. This could happen to any of us. Our whole street has been following this since the weekend. Thinking of Hanoi.
more neighborhoods should do this. It's not much but it's yours
Wishing you the best. Gave what I could, wish it was more. I have a 14 year old who wants to send good wishes too. Take care.
Is there anything that isn't money that would help Trinh?
Thinking of you. Hope you get there. My cousin had a similar thing happen so this one hit home.
Sending good thoughts, Trinh. It takes guts to ask. Well done. I'm in logistics myself and wanted you to know we're cheering for you.
