Restoring the Unity hillside: a volunteer-led project in Paris
A neighborhood-led restoration of the Unity hillside needs $1,450 for saplings and equipment.
🇫🇷 Paris, Île-de-France, France994 views
The Unity hillside has been used as an informal dump for years. This August, 89 neighbors turned up for a first cleanup, filling 56 bags in a single morning. Now we want to restore it for good.
We have a plan agreed with the local forestry office, including native species selected by a local botanist.
The area floods more each year, and fish have returned for the first time in a decade after our first cleanup. Restoring it will protect homes and bring back shade.
All the labor is volunteered. We just need materials.
We'll post planting day photos and a count of every sapling planted.
Where the $1,450 goes:
• Native saplings and stakes: $850
• Signage and educational materials: $250
• Waste removal and skip hire: $350
I'll pay this kindness forward the moment I'm able to.

Wishing you the best, Sophie. More neighborhoods should do this. My late mom used to say help given quietly counts double.
Hope the build day goes well, wish I lived closer. I went through something like this 11 years ago and strangers helped me out. Love from Tema.
Praying for you, Sophie. I've been in a tough spot myself and it does get easier. After 6 years in public service I know how hard it's to ask for anything. Love from Durgapur.
