Restoring the Union riverbank: a volunteer-led project in Birmingham
Help us clean and replant the Union riverbank before the September planting window closes.
π¬π§ Birmingham, England, United Kingdom821 views
The Union riverbank has been used as an informal dump for years. This May, 60 neighbors turned up for a first cleanup, filling 114 bags in a single morning. Now we want to restore it for good.
We have a plan agreed with the municipal water board, including native species selected by a local botanist.
The area floods more each year, and fish have returned for the first time in a decade after our first cleanup. Restoring it will protect homes and bring back shade.
All the labor is volunteered. We just need materials.
We'll post planting day photos and a count of every sapling planted.
Where the $1,100 goes:
β’ Signage and educational materials: $115
β’ Waste removal and skip hire: $460
β’ Tools and protective gear: $525
Ask me anything below before you decide. I'd rather you were sure.

So sorry you're going through this, Kimberly. Reading this made my day a bit heavier but I'm glad I did. Our whole street has been following this since the weekend. Take care.
