Restoring the Maple wetland: a volunteer-led project in Epe
A neighborhood-led restoration of the Maple wetland needs $305 for saplings and equipment.
🇳🇬 Nigeria1,027 views
The Maple wetland has been used as an informal dump for years. This May, 81 neighbors turned up for a first cleanup, filling 111 bags in a single morning. Now we want to restore it for good.
We have a plan agreed with the local forestry office, including native species selected by a local botanist.
The area floods more each year, and fish have returned for the first time in a decade after our first cleanup. Restoring it will protect homes and bring back shade.
All the labor is volunteered. We just need materials.
We'll post planting day photos and a count of every sapling planted.
Where the $305 goes:
• Native saplings and stakes: $180
• Tools and protective gear: $35
• Waste removal and skip hire: $85
• Signage and educational materials: $5
Glad we found this place.

stay strong, Kunle. Shared it with a few friends.
is there a list of costs somewhere? Just curious how it adds up for Kunle.
Sure. The biggest one is native saplings and stakes, $180. The rest is in the list at the bottom of the post and I'll upload receipts as I pay each one. It helps to be asked.
Hope this works out for you. Our whole street has been following this since the weekend. Love from Soweto
So sorry you're going through this. Projects like this are what make a place worth living in. My neighbor in Toronto donated after I showed her your page. Take care.
