Restoring the Maple hillside: a volunteer-led project in Parramatta
A neighborhood-led restoration of the Maple hillside needs $2,150 for saplings and equipment.
🇦🇺 Parramatta, New South Wales, Australia1,885 views
The Maple hillside has been used as an informal dump for years. This August, 34 neighbors turned up for a first cleanup, filling 83 bags in a single morning. Now we want to restore it for good.
We have a plan agreed with the local forestry office, including native species selected by a local botanist.
The area floods more each year, and fish have returned for the first time in a decade after our first cleanup. Restoring it will protect homes and bring back shade.
All the labor is volunteered. We just need materials.
Funds buy saplings, gloves, bags, hire of a skip, and signage.
Where the $2,150 goes:
• Native saplings and stakes: $930
• Tools and protective gear: $500
• Waste removal and skip hire: $600
• Signage and educational materials: $120
You're what makes this possible, and I'll never forget it.

is there a list of costs somewhere? Just curious how it adds up for Daniel.
Native saplings and stakes is $930 of it. Everything else is listed in the story and nothing outside that list comes out of this page. Fair thing to want to know.
Wishing you the best. Shared this with my family. Put this on a community board in Lagos this morning. Thinking of Parramatta.
