Restoring the Maple hillside: a volunteer-led project in Ogbomosho
A neighborhood-led restoration of the Maple hillside needs $150 for saplings and equipment.
🇳🇬 Oyo, Nigeria416 views
The Maple hillside has been used as an informal dump for years. This July, 31 neighbors turned up for a first cleanup, filling 198 bags in a single morning. Now we want to restore it for good.
We have a plan agreed with the district council, including native species selected by a local botanist.
The area floods more each year, and fish have returned for the first time in a decade after our first cleanup. Restoring it will protect homes and bring back shade.
All the labor is volunteered. We just need materials.
Funds buy saplings, gloves, bags, hire of a skip, and signage.
Where the $150 goes:
• Tools and protective gear: $45
• Waste removal and skip hire: $85
• Signage and educational materials: $20
Even a small gift gets used right away and I'll thank you myself.

is there a list of costs somewhere? Just curious how it adds up for Juliet.
Sure. The biggest one is tools and protective gear, $45. The rest is in the list at the bottom of the post and I'll upload receipts as I pay each one. Happy to explain more.
Thanks for sharing this, Juliet. Shared this with my family. Love from Olinda
Wishing you the best, Juliet. More neighborhoods should do this. Thinking of Ogbomosho.
