Restoring the Liberty hillside: a volunteer-led project in Zagazig
Help us clean and replant the Liberty hillside before the July planting window closes.
🇪🇬 Egypt855 views
The Liberty hillside has been used as an informal dump for years. This March, 49 neighbors turned up for a first cleanup, filling 138 bags in a single morning. Now we want to restore it for good.
We have a plan agreed with the municipal water board, including native species selected by a local botanist.
The area floods more each year, and fish have returned for the first time in a decade after our first cleanup. Restoring it will protect homes and bring back shade.
All the labor is volunteered. We just need materials.
We'll post planting day photos and a count of every sapling planted.
Where the $400 goes:
• Native saplings and stakes: $230
• Tools and protective gear: $90
• Waste removal and skip hire: $55
• Signage and educational materials: $25
You're what makes this possible, and I'll never forget it.

It takes guts to ask. Well done. My neighbor in Tiruchirappalli donated after I showed her your page
Thanks for sharing this. Reading this made my day a bit heavier but I'm glad I did. Wish I lived closer to Johannesburg so I could bring a meal. Greetings from Angeles.
Hang in there, Aisha. I've been in a tough spot myself and it does get easier. God bless.
