Restoring the Jacaranda wetland: a volunteer-led project in Sheffield
A neighborhood-led restoration of the Jacaranda wetland needs $1,250 for saplings and equipment.
Anywhere in the world2,117 views
The Jacaranda wetland has been used as an informal dump for years. This March, 81 neighbors turned up for a first cleanup, filling 72 bags in a single morning. Now we want to restore it for good.
We have a plan agreed with the city parks department, including native species selected by a local botanist.
The area floods more each year, and fish have returned for the first time in a decade after our first cleanup. Restoring it will protect homes and bring back shade.
All the labor is volunteered. We just need materials.
We'll post planting day photos and a count of every sapling planted.
Where the $1,250 goes:
• Waste removal and skip hire: $250
• Signage and educational materials: $230
• Native saplings and stakes: $770
Please ask me anything in the questions section. I'll answer honestly and quickly.

Thanks for sharing this, Krishna. Shared this with my family.
Stay strong, Krishna. It takes guts to ask. Well done. We had a similar scare last year, I know what it feels like.
Thanks for sharing this, Krishna. Everyone deserves a bit of help sometimes. This is the second need I've supported on here and the first that made me cry. All the best.
Take care, Krishna. Hope you get there. We're a small family in Bowling Green but we're thinking of you.
You're not alone, Krishna. Hope this works out for you. Thinking of Sheffield.
