Restoring the Jacaranda riverbank: a volunteer-led project in Adama
Volunteers are restoring the Jacaranda riverbank in Adama; $250 covers saplings, tools and waste removal.
Anywhere in the world647 views
The Jacaranda riverbank has been used as an informal dump for years. This June, 100 neighbors turned up for a first cleanup, filling 106 bags in a single morning. Now we want to restore it for good.
We have a plan agreed with the local forestry office, including native species selected by a local botanist.
The area floods more each year, and fish have returned for the first time in a decade after our first cleanup. Restoring it will protect homes and bring back shade.
All the labor is volunteered. We just need materials.
Funds buy saplings, gloves, bags, hire of a skip, and signage.
Where the $250 goes:
• Native saplings and stakes: $135
• Signage and educational materials: $35
• Waste removal and skip hire: $80
Whatever you can give, even just sharing this page, means a lot.

Is there anything that isn't money that would help Henok?
Thank you. If you're in Adama I'll say if something practical comes up. For now sharing this is great.
Thanks for sharing this, Henok. It takes guts to ask. Well done. Don't give up. God bless.
thanks for sharing this. Great idea, hope you get there. We're a small family in Ribeirão Preto but we're thinking of you. Greetings from Ribeirão Preto.
Sending strength, Henok. I've been in a tough spot myself and it does get easier. All the best.
Best of luck, Henok. This could happen to any of us. I told my book club about it and three of them are giving too.
Take care, Henok. Shared this with my family. I hope October is when things finally get easier
