Restoring the Jacaranda hillside: a volunteer-led project in Sakai
Help us clean and replant the Jacaranda hillside before the December planting window closes.
🇯🇵 Sakai, Osaka, Japan1,785 views
The Jacaranda hillside has been used as an informal dump for years. This August, 100 neighbors turned up for a first cleanup, filling 44 bags in a single morning. Now we want to restore it for good.
We have a plan agreed with the local forestry office, including native species selected by a local botanist.
The area floods more each year, and fish have returned for the first time in a decade after our first cleanup. Restoring it will protect homes and bring back shade.
All the labor is volunteered. We just need materials.
We'll post planting day photos and a count of every sapling planted.
Where the $1,250 goes:
• Tools and protective gear: $195
• Waste removal and skip hire: $410
• Native saplings and stakes: $645
Whatever you can give, even just sharing this page, means a lot.

Thinking of you. It takes guts to ask. Well done. My husband and I read this together.
is there a list of costs somewhere? Just curious how it adds up for Kaito.
Everything on the list is an amount I've been quoted or invoiced. tools and protective gear comes first ($195) and I'll update the page as each thing gets paid. Ask me anything else.
Looking forward to the next update. After 8 years in teaching I know how hard it is to ask for anything. All the best.
Thinking of you and your family. Shared it with a few friends. Please keep us posted.
A colleague of mine might know someone for this in Osaka. I'll ask around and let you know.
