Restoring the Harmony wetland: a volunteer-led project in Juiz de Fora
A neighborhood-led restoration of the Harmony wetland needs $750 for saplings and equipment.
Anywhere in the world943 views
The Harmony wetland has been used as an informal dump for years. This June, 57 neighbors turned up for a first cleanup, filling 180 bags in a single morning. Now we want to restore it for good.
We have a plan agreed with the city parks department, including native species selected by a local botanist.
The area floods more each year, and fish have returned for the first time in a decade after our first cleanup. Restoring it will protect homes and bring back shade.
All the labor is volunteered. We just need materials.
Funds buy saplings, gloves, bags, hire of a skip, and signage.
Where the $750 goes:
• Native saplings and stakes: $370
• Tools and protective gear: $120
• Waste removal and skip hire: $220
• Signage and educational materials: $40
Thank you so much.

Is there a list of costs somewhere? Just curious how it adds up for Vanessa.
Native saplings and stakes is $370 of it. Everything else is listed in the story and nothing outside that list comes out of this page. Let me know if you want more detail.
thinking of you and your family, Vanessa. More neighborhoods should do this
Hope you get there. My neighbor had a similar thing happen so this one hit home.
