Restoring the Freedom riverbank: a volunteer-led project in Mangaluru
Volunteers are restoring the Freedom riverbank in Mangaluru; $400 covers saplings, tools and waste removal.

The Freedom riverbank has been used as an informal dump for years. This April, 39 neighbors turned up for a first cleanup, filling 187 bags in a single morning. Now we want to restore it for good.
We have a plan agreed with the district council, including native species selected by a local botanist.
The area floods more each year, and fish have returned for the first time in a decade after our first cleanup. Restoring it will protect homes and bring back shade.
All the labor is volunteered. We just need materials.
Funds buy saplings, gloves, bags, hire of a skip, and signage.
Where the $400 goes:
• Native saplings and stakes: $120
• Tools and protective gear: $110
• Waste removal and skip hire: $110
• Signage and educational materials: $60
Every share and every dollar helps.

Hang in there. Hope you get there. I went through something like this 11 years ago and strangers helped me out. God bless.
