Restoring the Freedom riverbank: a volunteer-led project in Grenoble
Volunteers are restoring the Freedom riverbank in Grenoble; $1,350 covers saplings, tools and waste removal.
🇫🇷 France754 views
The Freedom riverbank has been used as an informal dump for years. This August, 42 neighbors turned up for a first cleanup, filling 54 bags in a single morning. Now we want to restore it for good.
We have a plan agreed with the district council, including native species selected by a local botanist.
The area floods more each year, and fish have returned for the first time in a decade after our first cleanup. Restoring it will protect homes and bring back shade.
All the labor is volunteered. We just need materials.
Funds buy saplings, gloves, bags, hire of a skip, and signage.
Where the $1,350 goes:
• Native saplings and stakes: $800
• Waste removal and skip hire: $410
• Signage and educational materials: $140
Thanks for reading all this.

is there anything that isn't money that would help Thierry?
Thank you. If you're in Grenoble I'll say if something practical comes up. For now sharing this is great. Fair thing to want to know.
Hang in there, Thierry. I hope things turn around soon. Don't lose heart. A few weeks ago I was in a hole too and it changed faster than I expected. Blessings.
Hope you get there. I told my book club about it and three of them are giving too. Greetings from Daegu.
is there a list of costs somewhere? Just curious how it adds up for Thierry.
It's all in the list in the story. native saplings and stakes is the big one at $800, I'll post a receipt when it's paid. Ask me anything else.
Hope it all works out, Thierry. Great idea, hope you get there. Take care.
praying for you, Thierry. More neighborhoods should do this. God bless
You're not alone, Thierry. I've been in a tough spot myself and it does get easier.
Thinking of you and your family, Thierry. This could happen to any of us. It's not much but it's yours. Take care!
