Restoring the Cedar hillside: a volunteer-led project in Bahir Dar
A neighborhood-led restoration of the Cedar hillside needs $300 for saplings and equipment.

The Cedar hillside has been used as an informal dump for years. This October, 87 neighbors turned up for a first cleanup, filling 64 bags in a single morning. Now we want to restore it for good.
We have a plan agreed with the municipal water board, including native species selected by a local botanist.
The area floods more each year, and fish have returned for the first time in a decade after our first cleanup. Restoring it will protect homes and bring back shade.
All the labor is volunteered. We just need materials.
Funds buy saplings, gloves, bags, hire of a skip, and signage.
Where the $300 goes:
• Native saplings and stakes: $165
• Tools and protective gear: $40
• Waste removal and skip hire: $65
• Signage and educational materials: $30
Even a small gift gets used right away and I'll thank you myself.

Updates from Senait
Good news. Because of your gifts ($62 in total) the plan for waste removal and skip hire is now scheduled. Still a way to go but it feels less lonely.

Sharing the link is the biggest thing. And if you know anything about native saplings and stakes, advice is welcome too. Good question.
