Restoring the Baobab canal: a volunteer-led project in Ibadan
Help us clean and replant the Baobab canal before the January planting window closes.
🇳🇬 Nigeria1,315 views
The Baobab canal has been used as an informal dump for years. This October, 89 neighbors turned up for a first cleanup, filling 155 bags in a single morning. Now we want to restore it for good.
We have a plan agreed with the district council, including native species selected by a local botanist.
The area floods more each year, and fish have returned for the first time in a decade after our first cleanup. Restoring it will protect homes and bring back shade.
All the labor is volunteered. We just need materials.
Funds buy saplings, gloves, bags, hire of a skip, and signage.
Where the $250 goes:
• Signage and educational materials: $25
• Native saplings and stakes: $95
• Waste removal and skip hire: $130
Even a small gift gets used right away and I'll thank you myself.

it takes guts to ask. Well done. Our whole street has been following this since the weekend. Thinking of Ibadan.
Keep going, Sani. Looking forward to the next update.
stay strong, Sani. Hope this works out for you. My neighbor had a similar thing happen so this one hit home. Love from Dundee.
Hope it all works out. Hope the build day goes well, wish I lived closer. Don't lose heart. A few weeks ago I was in a hole too and it changed faster than I expected. Greetings from Muzaffarpur.
you're not alone, Sani. Gave what I could, wish it was more.
