Restoring the Baobab canal: a volunteer-led project in Brampton
A neighborhood-led restoration of the Baobab canal needs $2,450 for saplings and equipment.
🇨🇦 Canada1,637 views
The Baobab canal has been used as an informal dump for years. This October, 38 neighbors turned up for a first cleanup, filling 184 bags in a single morning. Now we want to restore it for good.
We have a plan agreed with the local forestry office, including native species selected by a local botanist.
The area floods more each year, and fish have returned for the first time in a decade after our first cleanup. Restoring it will protect homes and bring back shade.
All the labor is volunteered. We just need materials.
We'll post planting day photos and a count of every sapling planted.
Where the $2,450 goes:
• Native saplings and stakes: $1,350
• Tools and protective gear: $210
• Waste removal and skip hire: $670
• Signage and educational materials: $220
Ask me anything below before you decide. I'd rather you were sure.

Thinking of you, Jacob. Everyone deserves a bit of help sometimes
Hope it all works out, Jacob. I've been in a tough spot myself and it does get easier. After 21 years in customer support I know how hard it's to ask for anything.
Thinking of you and your family, Jacob. Great idea, hope you get there. We lost years of savings to something like this so I get it. Greetings from Nairobi.
sending good thoughts. Hope the build day goes well, wish I lived closer. Don't be hard on yourself for asking. Take care.
Sending love, Jacob. I hope things turn around soon. Sent it to 5 people at work. Take care.
Hope things get better soon, Jacob. Reading this made my day a bit heavier but I'm glad I did. Don't give up. All the best.
