Restoring the Acacia canal: a volunteer-led project in Pune
A neighborhood-led restoration of the Acacia canal needs $250 for saplings and equipment.
Anywhere in the world706 views
The Acacia canal has been used as an informal dump for years. This December, 88 neighbors turned up for a first cleanup, filling 74 bags in a single morning. Now we want to restore it for good.
We have a plan agreed with the municipal water board, including native species selected by a local botanist.
The area floods more each year, and fish have returned for the first time in a decade after our first cleanup. Restoring it will protect homes and bring back shade.
All the labor is volunteered. We just need materials.
Funds buy saplings, gloves, bags, hire of a skip, and signage.
Where the $250 goes:
• Native saplings and stakes: $100
• Tools and protective gear: $45
• Waste removal and skip hire: $90
• Signage and educational materials: $15
I hope life is good to you.

how is Sangeetha doing now?
Hope things get better soon, Sangeetha. Everyone deserves a bit of help sometimes. Read this on the bus and kept thinking about it all day
I've been in a tough spot myself and it does get easier. I have a 11 year old who wants to send good wishes too. Blessings
Thinking of you and your family, Sangeetha. Hope you get there. Don't lose heart. A few weeks ago I was in a hole too and it changed faster than I expected. Blessings.
you're not alone, Sangeetha. Shared this with my family. Love from Jakarta.
Praying for you. Reading this made my day a bit heavier but I'm glad I did. I went through something like this 10 years ago and strangers helped me out
