Restoring the Acacia canal: a volunteer-led project in Jakarta
Volunteers are restoring the Acacia canal in Jakarta; $300 covers saplings, tools and waste removal.
🇮🇩 Jakarta, DKI Jakarta, Indonesia792 views
The Acacia canal has been used as an informal dump for years. This June, 91 neighbors turned up for a first cleanup, filling 42 bags in a single morning. Now we want to restore it for good.
We have a plan agreed with the local forestry office, including native species selected by a local botanist.
The area floods more each year, and fish have returned for the first time in a decade after our first cleanup. Restoring it will protect homes and bring back shade.
All the labor is volunteered. We just need materials.
We'll post planting day photos and a count of every sapling planted.
Where the $300 goes:
• Tools and protective gear: $40
• Native saplings and stakes: $155
• Waste removal and skip hire: $105
I'll keep this page updated with receipts as things happen.

Is there a list of costs somewhere? Just curious how it adds up for Mulyadi
It's all in the list in the story. tools and protective gear is the big one at $40, I'll post a receipt when it's paid. Thanks for looking so closely.
So sorry you're going through this, Mulyadi. More neighborhoods should do this. God bless.
Hang in there, Mulyadi. Projects like this are what make a place worth living in. Thinking of Jakarta.
