Restoring Sycamore Beach: a volunteer-led project in London
Help us clean and replant Sycamore Beach before the May planting window closes.
🇬🇧 London, England, United Kingdom1,579 views
Sycamore Beach has been used as an informal dump for years. This January, 93 neighbors turned up for a first cleanup, filling 94 bags in a single morning. Now we want to restore it for good.
We have a plan agreed with the municipal water board, including native species selected by a local botanist.
The area floods more each year, and fish have returned for the first time in a decade after our first cleanup. Restoring it will protect homes and bring back shade.
All the labor is volunteered. We just need materials.
Funds buy saplings, gloves, bags, hire of a skip, and signage.
Where the $2,050 goes:
• Native saplings and stakes: $570
• Tools and protective gear: $670
• Waste removal and skip hire: $590
• Signage and educational materials: $220
Glad we found this place.
Updates from Zoey
Thank you all. We're at 6% now ($125). I'm honestly stunned. I made the first payment toward native saplings and stakes.
Quick update: $100 raised so far (5%). I met with the nursery and confirmed the amounts. Receipts coming as soon as I have them.

Thinking of you and your family, Zoey. Hope you get there. Don't lose heart. A few weeks ago I was in a hole too and it changed faster than I expected.
Sending strength, Zoey. I hope things turn around soon.
sending good thoughts, Zoey. Reading this made my day a bit heavier but I'm glad I did. Please keep us posted.
Wishing you the best. It takes guts to ask. Well done. Don't be hard on yourself for asking.
