Restoring Pioneer Beach: a volunteer-led project in Metz
A neighborhood-led restoration of Pioneer Beach needs $1,350 for saplings and equipment.
🇫🇷 France740 views
Pioneer Beach has been used as an informal dump for years. This February, 52 neighbors turned up for a first cleanup, filling 63 bags in a single morning. Now we want to restore it for good.
We have a plan agreed with the municipal water board, including native species selected by a local botanist.
The area floods more each year, and fish have returned for the first time in a decade after our first cleanup. Restoring it will protect homes and bring back shade.
All the labor is volunteered. We just need materials.
We'll post planting day photos and a count of every sapling planted.
Where the $1,350 goes:
• Native saplings and stakes: $490
• Tools and protective gear: $410
• Waste removal and skip hire: $380
• Signage and educational materials: $70
I never thought I'd be the one asking, and I'm grateful for every bit of support.

Great idea, hope you get there. It's not much but it's yours. Love from Birmingham.
Can I help in a way that isn't money? I'm near Metz.
Sharing the link is the biggest thing. And if you know anything about native saplings and stakes, advice is welcome too. Appreciate you taking the time.
Sending good thoughts, Léo. Hope the build day goes well, wish I lived closer. Love from San Jose
Wishing you the best. Hope this works out for you. This is the second need I've supported on here and the first that made me cry.
