Restoring Maple Creek: a volunteer-led project in Nnewi
Volunteers are restoring Maple Creek in Nnewi; $255 covers saplings, tools and waste removal.
Anywhere in the world766 views
Maple Creek has been used as an informal dump for years. This August, 93 neighbors turned up for a first cleanup, filling 84 bags in a single morning. Now we want to restore it for good.
We have a plan agreed with the city parks department, including native species selected by a local botanist.
The area floods more each year, and fish have returned for the first time in a decade after our first cleanup. Restoring it will protect homes and bring back shade.
All the labor is volunteered. We just need materials.
We'll post planting day photos and a count of every sapling planted.
Where the $255 goes:
• Native saplings and stakes: $110
• Tools and protective gear: $75
• Waste removal and skip hire: $65
• Signage and educational materials: $5
Thank you so much.

Sending good thoughts. This could happen to any of us. I went through something like this 5 years ago and strangers helped me out. Blessings.
What exactly is the $255 for?
Native saplings and stakes is $110 of it. Everything else is listed in the story and nothing outside that list comes out of this page. Appreciate you taking the time.
