Restoring Maple Creek: a volunteer-led project in Brooklyn
Help us clean and replant Maple Creek before the November planting window closes.
🇺🇸 United States2,583 views
Maple Creek has been used as an informal dump for years. This August, 103 neighbors turned up for a first cleanup, filling 155 bags in a single morning. Now we want to restore it for good.
We have a plan agreed with the municipal water board, including native species selected by a local botanist.
The area floods more each year, and fish have returned for the first time in a decade after our first cleanup. Restoring it will protect homes and bring back shade.
All the labor is volunteered. We just need materials.
Funds buy saplings, gloves, bags, hire of a skip, and signage.
Where the $1,850 goes:
• Native saplings and stakes: $1,050
• Tools and protective gear: $270
• Waste removal and skip hire: $470
• Signage and educational materials: $60
Whatever you can give, even just sharing this page, means a lot.

Thinking of you, Genesis. Great idea, hope you get there. This is the second need I've supported on here and the first that made me cry
stay strong, Genesis. Reading this made my day a bit heavier but I'm glad I did.
Good luck, Genesis. More neighborhoods should do this. Our whole street has been following this since the weekend. God bless.
