Restoring Lotus Creek: a volunteer-led project in Kikuyu
A neighborhood-led restoration of Lotus Creek needs $350 for saplings and equipment.
🇰🇪 Kikuyu, Kiambu, Kenya866 views
Lotus Creek has been used as an informal dump for years. This July, 120 neighbors turned up for a first cleanup, filling 148 bags in a single morning. Now we want to restore it for good.
We have a plan agreed with the district council, including native species selected by a local botanist.
The area floods more each year, and fish have returned for the first time in a decade after our first cleanup. Restoring it will protect homes and bring back shade.
All the labor is volunteered. We just need materials.
We'll post planting day photos and a count of every sapling planted.
Where the $350 goes:
• Native saplings and stakes: $175
• Tools and protective gear: $35
• Waste removal and skip hire: $90
• Signage and educational materials: $50
Thanks for being kind about this.

Good luck, Florence. Projects like this are what make a place worth living in. Don't be hard on yourself for asking.
Sending strength, Florence. Gave what I could, wish it was more.
Thinking of you and your family. Gave what I could, wish it was more. I have a 11 year old who wants to send good wishes too. Take care
Best of luck, Florence. Reading this made my day a bit heavier but I'm glad I did. I hope November is when things finally get easier. Take care.
