Restoring Freedom Creek: a volunteer-led project in Saint-Denis
Volunteers are restoring Freedom Creek in Saint-Denis; $850 covers saplings, tools and waste removal.
🇫🇷 Saint-Denis, Île-de-France, France891 views
Freedom Creek has been used as an informal dump for years. This December, 53 neighbors turned up for a first cleanup, filling 89 bags in a single morning. Now we want to restore it for good.
We have a plan agreed with the district council, including native species selected by a local botanist.
The area floods more each year, and fish have returned for the first time in a decade after our first cleanup. Restoring it will protect homes and bring back shade.
All the labor is volunteered. We just need materials.
We'll post planting day photos and a count of every sapling planted.
Where the $850 goes:
• Tools and protective gear: $500
• Waste removal and skip hire: $260
• Signage and educational materials: $90
Thanks for being kind about this.

Updates from Jacques
Update from Saint-Denis: I met with the nursery and confirmed the amounts. We're at 18% of the goal. Thank you for believing in us.
Good news. Because of your gifts ($50 in total) the plan for waste removal and skip hire is now scheduled. Still a way to go but it feels less lonely.

It takes guts to ask. Well done. I went through something like this 14 years ago and strangers helped me out. Greetings from Lagos
