Restoring Freedom Beach: a volunteer-led project in Lagos
Volunteers are restoring Freedom Beach in Lagos; $200 covers saplings, tools and waste removal.

Freedom Beach has been used as an informal dump for years. This December, 97 neighbors turned up for a first cleanup, filling 176 bags in a single morning. Now we want to restore it for good.
We have a plan agreed with the district council, including native species selected by a local botanist.
The area floods more each year, and fish have returned for the first time in a decade after our first cleanup. Restoring it will protect homes and bring back shade.
All the labor is volunteered. We just need materials.
Funds buy saplings, gloves, bags, hire of a skip, and signage.
Where the $200 goes:
• Signage and educational materials: $35
• Tools and protective gear: $40
• Native saplings and stakes: $125

Is there a list of costs somewhere? Just curious how it adds up for Adaeze!
Signage and educational materials is $35 of it. Everything else is listed in the story and nothing outside that list comes out of this page. Thanks, that means a lot.
Hope things get better soon, Adaeze. I hope things turn around soon. All the best.
