Restoring Baobab Beach: a volunteer-led project in Rawalpindi
Volunteers are restoring Baobab Beach in Rawalpindi; $400 covers saplings, tools and waste removal.
🇵🇰 Rawalpindi, Punjab, Pakistan713 views
Baobab Beach has been used as an informal dump for years. This July, 102 neighbors turned up for a first cleanup, filling 185 bags in a single morning. Now we want to restore it for good.
We have a plan agreed with the municipal water board, including native species selected by a local botanist.
The area floods more each year, and fish have returned for the first time in a decade after our first cleanup. Restoring it will protect homes and bring back shade.
All the labor is volunteered. We just need materials.
Funds buy saplings, gloves, bags, hire of a skip, and signage.
Where the $400 goes:
• Native saplings and stakes: $190
• Tools and protective gear: $65
• Waste removal and skip hire: $100
• Signage and educational materials: $45
Even a small gift gets used right away and I'll thank you myself.

is there a list of costs somewhere? Just curious how it adds up for Kiran
Native saplings and stakes is $190 of it. Everything else is listed in the story and nothing outside that list comes out of this page. Fair thing to want to know.
Good luck. Hope you get there. Don't give up. All the best.
Thanks for sharing this, Kiran. I've been in a tough spot myself and it does get easier
Good luck. Your post was clear and honest. We had a similar scare last year, I know what it feels like. All the best.
Thanks for sharing this, Kiran. Hope you get there. Take care.
Wishing you the best, Kiran. Shared it with a few friends. Our whole street has been following this since the weekend.
