Restoring Acacia Creek: a volunteer-led project in Reading

Acacia Creek has been used as an informal dump for years. This May, 60 neighbors turned up for a first cleanup, filling 192 bags in a single morning. Now we want to restore it for good. We have a plan agreed with the local forestry office, including native species selected by a local botanist. The area floods more each year, and fish have returned for the first time in a decade after our first cleanup. Restoring it will protect homes and bring back shade. All the labor is volunteered. We just need materials. Funds buy saplings, gloves, bags, hire of a skip, and signage. Where the $2,000 goes: • Native saplings and stakes: $820 • Tools and protective gear: $540 • Waste removal and skip hire: $430 • Signage and educational materials: $210 Ask me anything below before you decide. I'd rather you were sure. - Alberto

Updates from Alberto

  1. Good news. Because of your gifts ($1,461 in total) the plan for native saplings and stakes is now scheduled. Still a way to go but it feels less lonely.

  3. Thank you all. We're at 22% now ($449). I'm honestly stunned. we've started the first stage.
