Istanbul
My family left the Democratic Republic of Congo 8 months ago after our home was destroyed. We spent time in a camp before we were resettled in Istanbul. We're a family of five and we're safe, but we arrived with very little. Our resettlement agency has provided 3 months of rent, and that support ends in November. I was a teacher in the Democratic Republic of Congo, and I'm studying the language every evening. Our daughter and son have started school and are doing well. We want nothing more than to be self-sufficient. This fund will help us through the first six months. Funds are managed by the Istanbul Refugee Support Network, a registered organization, which pays the landlord and suppliers on the family's behalf. Where the $650 goes: • Beds, table and basic furniture: $380 • Language classes and bus passes: $105 • Winter clothing and school supplies: $165 Every share and every dollar helps.

Is there anything that isn't money that would help Murat?

Thank you. If you're in Istanbul I'll say if something practical comes up. For now sharing this is great. Let me know if you want more detail.

  • Rooting for you, Murat. Hope this works out for you. We had a similar scare last year, I know what it feels like. Take care.

      • How is Murat doing now?

        • So sorry you're going through this. It takes guts to ask. Well done. My husband and I read this together.

          • Gave what I could, wish it was more. Read this on the bus and kept thinking about it all day. Take care

            • You're not alone, Murat. Shared this with my family. My father had a similar thing happen so this one hit home. Thinking of Istanbul.
