Cork
My family left the Democratic Republic of Congo 12 months ago after we could no longer live safely. We spent time in a camp before we were resettled in Cork. We're a family of four and we're safe, but we arrived with very little. Our resettlement agency has provided 3 months of rent, and that support ends in November. I was a farmer in the Democratic Republic of Congo, and I'm studying the language every evening. Our daughter and son have started school and are doing well. We want nothing more than to be self-sufficient. This fund will help us through the first six months. Funds are managed by the Cork Refugee Support Network, a registered organization, which pays the landlord and suppliers on the family's behalf. Where the $3,300 goes: • Rent deposit and first month: $1,650 • Beds, table and basic furniture: $640 • Winter clothing and school supplies: $300 • Language classes and bus passes: $510 • Phone and internet for school and job search: $200 I never thought I'd be the one asking, and I'm grateful for every bit of support.

Updates from Ruairi

  1. Good news. Because of your gifts ($292 in total) I met with the landlord and confirmed the amounts. Still a way to go but it feels less lonely.

  2. Quick update: $92 raised so far (3%). I made the first payment toward rent deposit and first month. Receipts coming as soon as I have them.
