My family left Syria 11 months ago after we were targeted for our work. We spent time in a camp before we were resettled in Toronto. We're a family of eight and we're safe, but we arrived with very little.
Our resettlement agency has provided 2 months of rent, and that support ends in October.
I was an electrician in Syria, and I'm studying the language every evening. Our daughter and son have started school and are doing well.
We want nothing more than to be self-sufficient. This fund will help us through the first six months.
Funds are managed by a local church-run settlement group, a registered organization, which pays the landlord and suppliers on the family's behalf.
Where the $3,550 goes:
• Beds, table and basic furniture: $880
• Language classes and bus passes: $240
• Rent deposit and first month: $1,800
• Winter clothing and school supplies: $630

Everything on the list is an amount I've been quoted or invoiced. beds, table and basic furniture comes first ($880) and I'll update the page as each thing gets paid. Appreciate you taking the time.
