Resettlement support for 5 people arriving in Arlington
After fleeing Somalia, the Mohammadi family has arrived in Arlington with little more than their documents. They need help with a deposit, furniture and the first months.

My family left Somalia 11 months ago after our home was destroyed. We spent time in a camp before we were resettled in Arlington. We're a family of seven and we're safe, but we arrived with very little.
Our resettlement agency has provided 3 months of rent, and that support ends in August.
I was a teacher in Somalia, and I'm studying the language every evening. Our daughter and son have started school and are doing well.
We want nothing more than to be self-sufficient. This fund will help us through the first six months.
Funds are managed by a local church-run settlement group, a registered organization, which pays the landlord and suppliers on the family's behalf.
Where the $2,950 goes:
• Phone and internet for school and job search: $135
• Winter clothing and school supplies: $820
• Language classes and bus passes: $470
• Rent deposit and first month: $1,525
I never thought I'd be the one asking, and I'm grateful for every bit of support.

Sending strength. Everyone deserves a bit of help sometimes. Don't lose heart. A few weeks ago I was in a hole too and it changed faster than I expected. Love from Memphis
Is there anything that isn't money that would help Ting?
Thank you. If you're in Arlington I'll say if something practical comes up. For now sharing this is great. Thanks for looking so closely.
Rooting for you. Hope this works out for you. Read this on the bus and kept thinking about it all day. All the best.
thinking of you and your family, Ting. I hope things turn around soon. This is the second need I've supported on here and the first that made me cry.
So sorry you're going through this. I've been in a tough spot myself and it does get easier. I told my book club about it and three of them are giving too. All the best
