Rekha was diagnosed with a torn ligament that needs reconstruction in May. The surgeon at Kathmandu General Hospital recommended knee replacement surgery, and She is scheduled for August. The hospital's financial office gave us a written estimate of $810, and after what my insurance will pay we're still $650 short.
my sister has been in and out of Kathmandu General Hospital since May. The doctors say a torn ligament that needs reconstruction will get worse without knee replacement surgery. We have emptied our savings and borrowed from relatives, but the estimate of $810 is more than we can find.
While we wait, Rekha struggles with daily life and can't walk without help. Her family has taken turns caring for her, and I've cut my own work hours to be there.
Rehabilitation is expected to take about 3 weeks. During that time Rekha won't be able to walk without help, so the costs keep growing.
