The house fire that spread across the block hit the Sunrise district on 4 August. My home was one of 28 damaged, and 12 families are still in temporary shelter at the community hall.
The first few days we shared what little we had. Now the cleanup has started, but we've no money for materials and winter or the rainy season is coming.
Schools in the area have been closed, and the clinic lost its cold storage for vaccines. We're a small community of working families who have never asked for help before.
We have formed a volunteer committee, and I'm the treasurer, so I'll post receipts for everything we buy.
We buy supplies locally and in bulk, so the money goes further. Receipts and photos will be posted in updates.
Where the $700 goes:
• Food parcels for displaced families: $210
• Bedding, blankets and mattresses: $155
• Roofing sheets and timber: $335
Even a small gift gets used right away and I'll thank you myself.

Hang in there, Marites. Projects like this are what make a place worth living in. I went through something like this 12 years ago and strangers helped me out. God bless
best of luck, Marites. I've been in a tough spot myself and it does get easier. Take care.
Hope things get better soon, Marites. I've been in a tough spot myself and it does get easier. We had a similar scare last year, I know what it feels like. Blessings
