Rebuilding after the fire in the informal settlement: the Lakeview neighborhood needs your help
After the fire in the informal settlement, families in the Lakeview neighborhood need clean water, roofing materials and bedding.
🇿🇦 Soweto, Gauteng, South Africa1,208 views
The fire in the informal settlement hit the Lakeview neighborhood on 15 September. My home was one of 43 damaged, and 3 families are still in temporary shelter at a mosque and church hall.
The first few days we shared what little we had. Now the cleanup has started, but we've no money for materials and winter or the rainy season is coming.
Schools in the area have been closed, and the clinic lost its cold storage for vaccines. We're a small community of working families who have never asked for help before.
We have formed a volunteer committee, and I'm the treasurer, so I'll post receipts for everything we buy.
We buy supplies locally and in bulk, so the money goes further. Receipts and photos will be posted in updates.
Where the $600 goes:
• Clean water and purification supplies: $140
• Tools and labor for repairs: $290
• Bedding, blankets and mattresses: $170
Glad we found this place.

Good luck, Clinton. Shared it with a few friends. All the best
Best of luck. Everyone deserves a bit of help sometimes. Put this on a community board in Naivasha this morning. Blessings
this could happen to any of us. Read this on the bus and kept thinking about it all day. Thinking of Soweto.
