The cyclone hit the Hillcrest settlement on 23 September. My home was one of 13 damaged, and 13 families are still in temporary shelter at a mosque and church hall. The first few days we shared what little we had. Now the cleanup has started, but we've no money for materials and winter or the rainy season is coming. Schools in the area have been closed, and the clinic lost its cold storage for vaccines. We're a small community of working families who have never asked for help before. We have formed a volunteer committee, and I'm the treasurer, so I'll post receipts for everything we buy. Funds go to building materials, water purification supplies, bedding, and food for families still in shelters. Where the $1,400 goes: • Bedding, blankets and mattresses: $220 • Tools and labor for repairs: $330 • Roofing sheets and timber: $570 • Food parcels for displaced families: $280 Please ask me anything in the questions section. I'll answer honestly and quickly.

Is there a list of costs somewhere? Just curious how it adds up for Chamara.

    • The list at the bottom is the whole picture. bedding, blankets and mattresses is the biggest at $220. Good question.

  • hope you get there. Thinking of Colombo.

    • Thinking of you, Chamara. Gave what I could, wish it was more. I have a 9 year old who wants to send good wishes too. Thinking of Colombo.
