In April I was diagnosed with a hernia that has become strangulated. My surgeon at Saint Joseph Hospital recommended a partial thyroidectomy, and I have been placed on the schedule for June. The hospital's financial office gave me a written estimate of $2,400, and after what our health plan will pay, I'm still $1,450 short.
Doctors at Saint Joseph Hospital told me a hernia that has become strangulated will get worse without a partial thyroidectomy. I work as a school bus driver, and I have saved what I can, but the estimate of $2,400 is far beyond what I've.
Until the surgery I can't work full days, and my hours as a school bus driver have already been cut. Every week of waiting means more pain and a bigger risk.
Recovery is expected to take about 7 weeks. I'll not be able to climb stairs during that time, so this has become a financial emergency as well as a medical one.

Is there a list of costs somewhere? Just curious how it adds up for Rashid.
Everything on the list is an amount I've been quoted or invoiced. surgeon and anesthesia fees comes first ($610) and I'll update the page as each thing gets paid. Fair thing to want to know.
