Rafiq was diagnosed with a cleft palate needing repair in January. The surgeon at Varanasi Orthopedic Institute recommended valve repair surgery, and He is scheduled for February. The hospital's financial office gave us a written estimate of $1,600, and after what the government subsidy will pay we're still $950 short.
my husband has been in and out of Varanasi Orthopedic Institute since January. The doctors say a cleft palate needing repair will get worse without valve repair surgery. We have emptied our savings and borrowed from relatives, but the estimate of $1,600 is more than we can find.
While we wait, Rafiq struggles with daily life and can't lift anything heavy. His family has taken turns caring for him, and I've cut my own work hours to be there.
The recovery period is expected to take about 10 weeks. During that time Rafiq won't be able to lift anything heavy, so the costs keep growing.
