Rafaela was diagnosed with a large ovarian cyst in August. The surgeon at Saint Elizabeth Hospital recommended laparoscopic cyst removal, and She is scheduled for November. The hospital's financial office gave us a written estimate of $2,550, and after what my employer's plan will pay we're still $1,900 short. my mother has been in and out of Saint Elizabeth Hospital since August. The doctors say a large ovarian cyst will get worse without laparoscopic cyst removal. We have emptied our savings and borrowed from relatives, but the estimate of $2,550 is more than we can find. While we wait, Rafaela struggles with daily life and can't climb stairs. Her family has taken turns caring for her, and I've cut my own work hours to be there. The recovery period is expected to take about 6 weeks. During that time Rafaela won't be able to climb stairs, so the costs keep growing.
