Plant 899 native trees around the Union wetland in San Diego
A neighborhood-led restoration of the Union wetland needs $1,150 for saplings and equipment.
🇺🇸 California, United States1,460 views
The Union wetland has been used as an informal dump for years. This August, 38 neighbors turned up for a first cleanup, filling 129 bags in a single morning. Now we want to restore it for good.
We have a plan agreed with the district council, including native species selected by a local botanist.
The area floods more each year, and fish have returned for the first time in a decade after our first cleanup. Restoring it will protect homes and bring back shade.
All the labor is volunteered. We just need materials.
We'll post planting day photos and a count of every sapling planted.
Where the $1,150 goes:
• Tools and protective gear: $420
• Waste removal and skip hire: $500
• Signage and educational materials: $230
Whatever you can give, even just sharing this page, means a lot.

Wishing you peace, Sofía. Great idea, hope you get there. We had a similar scare last year, I know what it feels like
Hope you get there. Put this on a community board in Toronto this morning.
