Plant 4,800 native trees around the Unity wetland in Brampton
Help us clean and replant the Unity wetland before the October planting window closes.
🇨🇦 Canada2,045 views
The Unity wetland has been used as an informal dump for years. This August, 115 neighbors turned up for a first cleanup, filling 86 bags in a single morning. Now we want to restore it for good.
We have a plan agreed with the local forestry office, including native species selected by a local botanist.
The area floods more each year, and fish have returned for the first time in a decade after our first cleanup. Restoring it will protect homes and bring back shade.
All the labor is volunteered. We just need materials.
We'll post planting day photos and a count of every sapling planted.
Where the $2,000 goes:
• Native saplings and stakes: $600
• Tools and protective gear: $500
• Waste removal and skip hire: $620
• Signage and educational materials: $280
Thanks for being kind about this.
- Liam
Updates from Liam
Quick update: $759 raised so far (38%). I met with the nursery and confirmed the amounts. Receipts coming as soon as I have them.
Good news. Because of your gifts ($494 in total) we've booked the dates and paid the deposit. Still a way to go but it feels less lonely.
Wanted to say thank you properly. 7% funded and the plan for waste removal and skip hire is now scheduled. - Liam
